St. Nicholas House Preparatory School Statement

Staffing
Children enter full time education in Reception and from the age of 4 to 11 children are taught by fully qualified class teachers with the support of classroom assistants. All classes benefit from specialist subject teachers for French, Music and Games. The Staff liase closely to ensure all children receive the support and challenges they need. Special Educational Needs are supported by a specialist teacher.

Feedback
Regular reports, three full reports, three half-term grade reports and two parent's
evenings a year keeps parents fully informed of their child's progress. The school open door policy encourages parents to keep in regular contact with their child's teachers. Should parents have concerns outside the school hours, they can contact the Headmaster by leaving a message on the school answer machine, or via the website.

Curriculum
Through a wide varied curriculum, based on the National Curriculum, children in KS1 and KS2 receive a solid foundation in Literacy and Numeracy whilst studying Science, History, Geography, P.S.H.E. Religious Education, French, Art, Design and Technology and Sport.

Whilst experiencing a wide and challenging timetable children are prepared for Secondary-Education (four academic scholarships from seven leavers) and ultimately to take their place in society. Pupils of St. Nicholas House are encouraged to try new experiences through clubs (see separate activities page), competitions and a spectrum of school trips.

Community
Guest speakers are invited to give assemblies and share their experiences with their children, in the past some of these speakers have been connected with fund raising the school has taken part in: East Anglian Children's Hospice, British Heart Foundation, N.S.P.C.C., Macmillan Cancer Relief.

Links with the community is maintained through the Harvest Festival donations, carol singing at a local old people's home, visits to the Library and Sports fixtures with local schools.

Throughout a child's time at St. Nicholas House School they are taught to be part of a team, through a House System, and to respect the views and feelings of others.

A school council enables children to make suggestions and raise any issues with the Headmaster. Every child is made to feel welcome and valued as an individual and as part of the School.

At St. Nicholas House School everyone counts! We are a busy, happy and thriving school, please come and see us at work and play.
