After your home, financial commitment to independent education may be the biggest investment you will make, so it is important to do your research well. You should consider every option, even if you have preconceptions - whether they are about the size of the school, it’s location or the fees. Ultimately, you must choose the school that feels right for your child and for your family.
We are a small school - we want to grow, but not too much. We are proud of our homely and intimate feel and our class sizes are small meaning our staff have more contact time with pupils. Our classrooms are the same size and have the same modern facilities as other prep schools, but we have fewer of them.
St Nicks is located in a large Edwardian family house on the Yarmouth Road in North Walsham. The majority of pupils come from within a 12 mile radius of North Walsham and we operate a minibus service to and from school. Some families come to us from Norwich - and when the Northern Distributor Road is completed the travel times for those who come to us from the city may be cut substantially.
The table below shows the fees payable for the school year 2017/2018 for a day child, including lunch, in Reception and Year 6 for a number of schools in the area. Our fees are substantially lower than all the other prep schools. This is because we do not have the overheads of a city site or country estate. * 2016/17 fee
It is true to say that because of our location, our on-site sports facilities are limited however our children have PE and Games lessons by fully trained staff twice a week, plus the option of sporting activities after school. We work in conjunction with local sports clubs and competitive off-site matches and sporting events are arranged with other prep schools several times a term. In addition to this, Nursery to Year 6 have weekly swimming lessons at the local pool, less than a mile away.
Despite meticulous research, it is usually a decision from the heart as well as the head that contributes most to any major decision so please do come to our Open Day, meet the children, myself and my staff and see what you think.
We will be open for visitors from 9.30 - 12.00 noon and again from 1.30 to 3.30pm.
